Dharma Night: The Buddha’s teachings for everyone
Liberating Gems From the Pali Canon
The Pali Canon is a tried and tested treasure chest of teachings to transform human suffering into freedom. In this series, we will pick some of the brightest gems from this treasure chest of over 2000 individual teachings. Each night, through a range of speakers, we will unpack and explore how they can bring a liberating light into our lives today, 2000 years after they were first written down.
Week 3 with Rob, Giles and Ingle:
The Liberating Gems from the Pali Canon Dharma night series continues with a deep dive into the short and quirky Sedaka Sutta: Bamboo Acrobat Sutta. Giles, Ingle and Rob will each give a short talk offering different perspectives on the text.
This very practical Sutta centres around a master acrobat and his assistant discussing how to stay safe whilst balancing on a bamboo pole. The master proposes that they each focus on the other, whilst the assistant proposes that they each focus on themself only. The Buddha then applies his reflections on each perspective to the establishment of mindfulness.
