Dharma Night: The Buddha’s teachings for everyone
Liberating Gems from the Pali Canon
with Balajit and friends
The Pali Canon is a tried and tested treasure chest of teachings to purify our hearts and transform human suffering into inconceivable freedom. In this series, we will pick some of the brightest gems from this vast collection of over 2000 individual teachings. Each night, through a range of speakers, we will explore a different text, in a practical and pragmatic way, to see how it can bring a liberating light into our lives today, 2000 years after they were first written down.
15th May “The Divine Eye: the tale of Subha and the Libertine” with Ollie, Eve and Sheldon
This evening will explore a text from the Therigatha, which is a collection of poems in the Pali Canon written by buddhist nuns. The text is called ‘’Subha Jivakambavanika’ or ‘’Subha and the Libertine’’
There will be a dramatic reading of text . How will the enlightened num Subha respond to the son of a goldsmith called Libertine – who is determined to court her?
This will be followed by thoughts on the contemporary relevance of the sutta’s themes and teaching, and discussion
______________
Every 7 weeks there will be a new theme, along with pujas and guest speakers. Each session is stand alone, so you don’t have to come to every one in the series.
