Celebrating Viracitta

Celebrating Viracitta

When

February 25, 2024
2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Event Type

For many of us, it’s easy to think that the Buddhist Centre has always been here. However, this isn’t the case.

In the mid- 80s a small band of guys were inspired to take Buddhism out of London and make it available to the people of the Midlands.  Viracitta was one of those co-founders. Whilst working full-time in London, he started coming to Birmingham and threw himself into building up a group, finding property, maintaining a Buddhist Centre in Salisbury Road and then, later, finding and renovating our current building.

Viracitta died at home on 5 January 2024. This day will be a celebration of him, his life and the time and energy he contributed to the Birmingham Centre and the wider Movement. Of course, he couldn’t have founded the Buddhist Centre alone, so this is also a chance to celebrate and meet some of the other key figures from the early days.

The afternoon will include puja and rejoicing, with tea and cake to follow.

Please email Mike at info@birminghambuddhistcentre.org.uk letting him know if you will be coming in person, or attending via Zoom (so he can send you the link) and if you need a parking space right outside the Buddhist Centre for reasons of mobility.
