Weekend Retreat with Vajragupta: Free Time! (waiting list only)

Friday 13 – Sunday 15 September
Led by Vajragupta at Adhisthana

The Buddha famously said that experience is shaped by mind; we become what we think. This is true of everything we experience, even the time that we seem to experience things ‘in’! Depending on our mental and emotional state, time will tighten or loosen, race or crawl; it will become more hard and solid, or more viscous and flowing. In our modern world, life seems to go faster and faster; surveys show just how many people feel they never have enough time, that they are always in a hurry, and this can be very stressful. Our relationship with time will profoundly effect the quality of our whole life.

On this weekend retreat, through talks, meditation, reflection, and discussion, we will explore just how deeply and fundamentally mind and time are interconnected and mutually dependent. This can help free us from restlessness and anxiety. It can also open us up to the sheer mystery of time, and of what it means to be alive.

Vajragupta was chair of the Birmingham Buddhist Centre from 1997 to 2005. He has published five books on Buddhism. The latest of these, published this year, is Free Time! From Clock-watching to Free-Flowing. Adhisthana offers a wonderful location in rural surroundings. The buildings themselves are ideal for hosting retreats: spacious, beautiful and dedicated to Buddhist practice. Adhisthana forms a hub of Triratna’s activities worldwide and is a very special place to visit.

This retreat is suitable for those who have been introduced to the two meditation practices we teach in Triratna, the Mindfulness of Breathing and Metta Bhavana.

Full rate £110, concessionary rate £70. A non-refundable deposit of £45 is required.

Now fully booked. If you’d like to go on the waiting list, contact the Buddhist Centre Office on info@birminghambuddhistcentre.org.uk or 0121 449 5279.
