Weekend & Week retreats
Retreats offer the chance to break out of our usual routines and get
a fresh perspective on our life. We can explore meditation and Buddhism
much more deeply than is usually possible in an evening class at the
centre.
The Triratna Buddhist Community has a number of national retreat centres
that offer a broad range of retreats on a variety of themes, and for
differing levels of experience. The brochures for these centres are
available at the Birmingham Buddhist Centre, or see www.goingonretreat.com. The centre also
runs its own retreats in hired premises: Anybody's Barn outside Malvern
in Worcestershire, and Big Mose Basecamp near Bridgnorth in Shropshire.
To book a retreat, please send us a £25 deposit (payable to 'Birmingham
Buddhist Centre'). This is non-returnable or transferable. On the retreat
we will ask for a further donation. The amounts shown below are what
we suggest as the total donation, including deposit, unless stated as
a 'cost'.
These retreats are suitable for anyone who has already completed our
Introduction to Buddhist meditation
course, unless specified otherwise. Directions to the retreat location
and information about the retreat are sent out upon booking or shortly
before the retreat date.

Retreats in 2011
21st - 23rd Jan. Retreat in wild Wales for men.
Led by Shuddhakirti and Saraha.
18th - 20th March. Retreat for Women. Earlswood Log Cabin.
6th - 8th May. Sangha Retreat. Big Mose Basecamp, Shropshire.
24th - 26th June. Buddhism and the BIG Questions.
The theme of this retreat is:
The Buddha - the kind one, the compassionate
one, the bull amongst heroes.
The Buddha was described by people who met him as a bull, a lion roaring
the lion's roar, the king's mighty war
elephant. He is also rightly famous as one of the formost teachers of
peace and love and as one of the most
successful reformers of an unjust society. The Buddha's lifelong companion
remembered him as "he who was so kind."
How can we be strong, powerful and effective? How can we be deeply
engaged with the difficulties of our lives
and our planet without being unkind to ourselves or others. How can
we live the life that we long for and deserve? How can we respond to
challenges and disasters with love and positivity, without despair?
Billberry Hill Centre, Rose Hill, Lickey, Birmingham B45 8RT
