About the Birmingham Buddhist Centre

The Birmingham Buddhist Centre is part of the Triratna Buddhist Community, which was founded in 1967 by Sangharakshita and now runs over 80 Centres around the world. See thebuddhistcentre.com for a full history of the movement.

The Triratna Buddhist Community is ecumenical in nature; it draws on the entire Buddhist tradition for teachings and inspiration. The unifying factor is the Buddha himself, the Enlightened One. Reverence for the Buddha is an essential part of being a Buddhist, and the Triratna Buddhist Order consists of men and women who have committed themselves wholeheartedly to practising the teachings of the Buddha in their daily lives.

We welcome visits from schools, colleges, interfaith groups and other interested parties. We can organise visiting speakers and meditation teachers. We also lead Buddhist funerals. We have experienced celebrants who are ordained members of the Triratna Buddhist Order.

Attached to the centre is a shop offering an excellent range of Buddhist literature, meditation and yoga equipment, incense, cards, Buddhist figures, and more.

The centre also has a well kept garden at the rear which is available to use as a quiet space by our visitors.
